Do Your Own Research

DYOR isnโ€™t just advice, itโ€™s a skillset that puts you in the driverโ€™s seat of your own digital freedom.

In the world of Digital Privacy, relying on a single source of truth – even us – isnโ€™t just risky, itโ€™s limiting.

Thatโ€™s why one of the core principles of this training is Do Your Own Research (DYOR).

We encourage you to investigate, compare, cross-check, and form your own conclusions by looking for patterns of consensus across a range of trusted sources. This isnโ€™t about blind distrustโ€”itโ€™s about empowered decision-making.

  • Your Escape Launchpad acts as a gateway to an alternative internetโ€”featuring privacy-respecting search tools and curated resources to support independent research.
  • The Tubes connect you with a wide spectrum of voices, ideas, and insights, while
  • Roadside Assistance helps you tap into supportive communities where you can ask questions, get guidance, and share your wins along the way.

Roadside Assistance

Even the best drivers need help now and then. Thatโ€™s where Roadside Assistance comes in – pointing you to places where you can get support, ask questions, and find your digital freedom crew.

Weโ€™re building a network of Digital Freedom Support Communities where people help each other escape Big Tech and stay free. Youโ€™ll find us on many alternative social platforms, and you’re encouraged to join a community, or create your own.

Whether you’re new to privacy tools or deep in the trenches, we all go further together.

Just remember: most support communities are volunteer-based. That means how you ask matters. Be respectful, be clear, be patient. Demanding help, ignoring guidelines, or expecting instant answers usually leads nowhereโ€”and burns the bridges youโ€™re here to build.

Youโ€™ll find our support groups listed in the Privacy Communities Tube, alongside many other privacy-focused forums, projects, and collectives.

We’ve also included pre-written searches to help you find help fast for specific tools or topics covered in each step.

For example:

Whether you’re stuck configuring a browser, curious about containerization, or trying to troubleshoot encryption toolsโ€”help is out there. Sometimes you just need to know where to look.

We want to build Digital Freedom Support Communities where people help each other. and encourage you to join one of our Support Communites on alternative social media platforms.
