My Digital Life Logbook
Track Your Progress
Your Digital Life Logbook is for planning and tracking your escape from the Big Tech Digital Prison
This is where youโll research, plan, and track the creation of your Escape CARS. You’ll check in regularly to record progress, stay organised, and stay motivated. Itโs also where youโll schedule time for working on CARS, take notes, and document key decisions along the way.
Your Logbook is more than just a record!
Itโs a tool to keep you focused, accountable, and moving forward on your journey to digital freedom.
Logbook Assigned Tasks
NOTE: You will need access to your Escape to Digital Freedom Workbook before you can commence these Tasks.
The CARS Workshop will explain how to download and use with Joplin.
How to Track Your Digital Activity
Keeping this log will help you understand your digital habits by tracking how much time you spend on different types of activities.
The goal is to:
- Identify where you spend most of your digital time.
- Recognize habits or activities you may want to adjust.
Each day, for one week, record the time spent in spent on different activities.
The Escape to Digital Freedom Workbook provides a formatted daily log for tracking your digital time.
You can customise it by adding new categories, breaking existing ones into subcategories, or including additional details. Use the notes section to track anything relevant about your activities.
How precise you want to be is up to you, you can log time as you go or estimate it at the end of the day. Exact timing isnโt necessary; rounding to the nearest 10 minutes is sufficient.
By the end of the week, you’ll have a clear understanding of how you engage with digital tools and services which will assist you with Step 2.
Using Automatic Activity-tracking Apps
Most time-tracking apps pose significant security and privacy concerns, as they often collect and store data on external servers, making your activity accessible to third parties.
If you want a privacy-respecting time-tracking tool, ActivityWatch is currently the only solid privacy respecting option. It allows you to download, install, and run it entirely locally, ensuring your data stays on your device.
ActivityWatch is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android, but unfortunately, there is no support for iPhones or iPads due to Apple’s restrictions. For iPhone users, the best alternative is simply using Appleโs built-in Screen Time feature, which automatically tracks app usage and device activity. While not perfect, it avoids relying on third-party apps that might collect and share data.
