Escape To Digital Freedom Workbook

Escape to Digital Freedom Workbook

We provide a FREE downloadable Workbook to accompany the training with everything thing you need for Playtime including a copy of the course notes for offline viewing.

The Workbook is designed so you stay in full control of your personal data and are not locked into any system, especially proprietary.

Physical or Digital

You can create your Escape to Digital Freedom Workbook as either a physical book or a digital file using any tools you prefer. A digital version is easier to update and search, but keeping a physical printed version of the most important sections can be a lifesaver if you lose access to your devices or the internet.

PHYSICAL BOOK – Using something like a numbered exercise book or diary with a pen or pencil is fine.

DIGITAL BOOK – We provide this guide in a non-proprietary Markdown format, so you have the choice of what tools you prefer to work with

BOTH (Recommended) – We highly recommend keeping a physical readable copy of the most important information. If you have access to a printer, you can print off selected notes from your DIGITAL BOOK or you can manually transcribe the important stuff into an exercise book.

Escape to Digital Freedom (Joplin)

Joplin is a powerful and secure EASY TO USE note-keeping system that we use to create the training and support materials. We highly recommend using it for the 10-Step training, unless you have a specific reason not to.

The biggest advantage of using Joplin Notes is that we provide a pre-formatted Joplin workbook designed for the training. This will save you time and make Playtime tasks much easier to complete.

Joplin checks all the right privacy & usability boxes:

  • You can download it for FREE and use it Anonymously.
  • Privacy Respecting – No tracking, no data collection, and no access to your personal information.
  • Available on all major platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS
  • Retain Full Control over data by storing it locally or on removable media
  • A well-respected Open Source Alternative with strong community support
  • Fully compatible with the .md markdown format used for Virtual CAR Profiles.
  • Allows you to export your Workbook and move it to other formats as needed
  • Provides the easiest and most complete version of the Escape to Digital Freedom Workbook available
  • 99% Safe to Use – Jopline cannot execute malicious code.

You will find information on how to set up Joplin with the training Workbook in the CARS Workbook and CARS Workshop.

Escape to Digital Freedom (Generic)

We understand that you may not be able to use Joplin or may prefer not to—NO PROBLEM.

The CARS Digital Privacy System is designed to be technology-independent, allowing you to export and use it across different platforms using Markdown.

We have chosen Markdown (.md) as the official file format for CARS Profiles and other note-keeping needs in this training.

Why Markdown (.md)?

Markdown is a widely supported, text-based format that ensures flexibility and long-term usability.

Where Can You Use the Markdown Workbook?

The Escape to Digital Freedom Workbook in Markdown format can be directly imported into the following applications and platforms:

  • Joplin Notes – Supports exploring to PDF and HTML.
  • Logseq – Privacy-focused and designed for linked thinking.
  • Zettlr – A markdown editor for researchers and writers.
  • Standard Notes – Secure, encrypted note-keeping.
  • Plain Text Editors – Any text editor (e.g., Notepad++, VS Code, Sublime Text) can open and edit .md files.
  • Notable – A simple and lightweight markdown-based note app (Not Open Source).
  • Obsidian – A powerful markdown-based note-taking app (Not Open Source).

Markdown Format Limitations

While Markdown is a great universal format, it does not support all of Joplin’s rich features. Some things will not be included in the exported version:

  • Notebook structure (Markdown uses folders instead of nested notebooks).
  • Tagging system (Some apps may support tags, but not all).
  • Internal links between notes (These may require manual adjustment).
  • Advanced formatting and styling (Joplin’s rich formatting elements may be lost).

Additionally, images stored locally in the Escape to Digital Freedom Workbook will not be embedded inside the Markdown file but will instead be saved as separate files with links to them.

Training Focus & Future Flexibility

This training is based on using Joplin Notes, and we do not provide specific guidance for alternative platforms. However, the CARS System is not locked into any one tool.

If Joplin becomes non-viable in the future, we will switch to an alternative while maintaining the core principles of the system.

By the time you complete this training, you will have a structured process to find, evaluate, test, and safely implement alternatives. At that point, you can choose a tool that best fits your needs.
