Terms of Use: CARS System and Training Materials

This document outlines the terms of use for the CARS System for Digital Privacy and its associated training materials, including but not limited to the “10 Steps to Escape the Big Tech Digital Prison” course (collectively referred to as “the Materials”).

These Materials are created by Christopher Bennetts and published by Digital Freedom Alliance (DFA). The official home of these Materials is https://digitalfreedomalliance.net/.

The Materials are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0) License.

1. What You CAN Do with These Materials

You are free to:

Use and distribute the Materials for free or commercially, including in training programs, workshops, and online education.
Share the Materials as-is (PDFs, slides, videos, etc.) without modification.
Provide additional content (extra modules, case studies, exercises, etc.), as long as they follow the rules in Section 3.
Reference and apply the CARS System in your work, as long as proper credit is given (see Section 3).
Request permission for minor modifications such as localization, factual updates, or accessibility improvements (see Section 2).

2. Modification Rules & Permission for Small Changes

🔴 You may NOT modify the core Materials without permission.

🔵 For small, approved modifications, you can request permission from Digital Freedom Alliance at https://digitalfreedomalliance.net/.

Examples of small modifications that may be approved:

Adjusting cultural references or language for localization.
Updating outdated facts or statistics.
Minor formatting adjustments for accessibility.

All approved modifications must:

✅ Be clearly marked as modified.

✅ Still credit the original creator and DFA.

3. Rules for Additional Content & Use of the CARS System

You may create and distribute additional materials to complement these Materials, as long as you follow these rules:

1️⃣ Clearly Separate Additional Content – Any add-on module must be clearly marked as separate from the core Materials.

Example disclaimer:
“This module is an independent addition created by [Your Name/Organization] and is not part of the original CARS System or the ’10 Steps to Escape the Big Tech Digital Prison’ training by Digital Freedom Alliance.”

2️⃣ Always Credit the Original Work – Any training that includes the CARS System or its related Materials must include this attribution:

“This training includes concepts from the CARS System by Christopher Bennetts for Digital Freedom Alliance, licensed under CC BY-ND 4.0. See https://walkawayfrombigtech.com/ for the original material.”

3️⃣ Same License Applies to Add-ons – Any additional materials must also be licensed under CC BY-ND 4.0, ensuring openness and consistency.

4️⃣ Use of the CARS System in Other Work – You may apply the CARS System methodology in your own work (consulting, training, writing, etc.), but you must provide proper attribution and cannot claim ownership over the system itself.

4. Prohibited Uses

🚫 No rebranding – You cannot rename or pass off the CARS System or training materials as your own.

🚫 No unauthorized modifications – You cannot change the Materials without prior approval.

🚫 No restrictive licensing – You cannot place these Materials or add-ons under a more restrictive license.

🚫 No false claims – You cannot imply that DFA endorses your additional content.

🚫 No misrepresentation – You cannot claim to have created the CARS System or its training materials.
